Why marine motors are different
On ships the environment has salt spray, humidity, temperature swings and strong vibration, so a marine DC motor needs special treatment: corrosion-resistant housing, moisture-proof insulation and salt-spray-resistant windings, and often a class society (e.g. CCS) requirement. A normal land motor on a ship will fail much faster.
Z2C vs Z2
| Item | Z2 land DC | Z2C marine DC |
|---|---|---|
| Structure | Standard | Same as Z2 |
| Protection | Standard | Enhanced moisture/salt |
| Materials | Standard | Corrosion-treated |
| Use | General industry | Ships, ports |
Selection points
- Voltage & speed: marine DC often 110/220V; match the ship supply.
- IP rating: higher moisture/dust protection.
- Duty: deck winches, pump sets start frequently - check S2/S3/S5.
- Anti-corrosion: confirm marine-grade coating.
Wangpai marine DC range
Wangpai supplies Z2C marine DC motor (0.4~200 kW, same structure as Z2) and Z4 DC, customised to ship duty. If a class society certificate is needed, please state it upfront.
FAQs
Can a land motor be used on a ship? Not recommended - salt spray and humidity corrode it and shorten life.
What certification does a marine motor need? Per class society requirements, usually a marine certificate (CCS etc.).
How to quote a marine DC motor? Send voltage, power, speed, duty and mounting; we will match the marine solution.
